Senior Information Consultant – Scotiabank

Description and accountabilities:

Scotiabank’s Library provides research and information management services to Scotiabank employees worldwide. Our Library has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Information Consultant.   Reporting to the Manager of Information Delivery Services, the Senior Information Consultant provides technology and knowledge management expertise so that timely, cost-effective and value-added library services are readily available and accessible to Scotiabank Group staff worldwide.

1. Responsible for the optimization of user interfaces which improve the overall customer experience and efficient use of Scotia Library Services’ (SLS) intranet site, catalog, services and resources
• Designs and develops effective online training materials and help content.
• Provides technology support for innovative training modules.

2. Coordinates Knowledge Management initiatives within the Library by assessing, selecting and applying current and emerging information management tools.
• Monitors and proactively investigates new technologies that may have an impact on information management.
• Actively shares knowledge, skills and expertise with other Library staff and Scotiabank employees.

3. Responsible for the systems administration of Library resources
• Administers technical aspects of the third party research databases on the Library site to ensure their efficient operation.
• Optimizes authentication methodologies and provides support for access to enterprise-wide licensed products.

4. Contributes to the efficient operation, ongoing maintenance and future direction of Library management systems, tools, and software
• Contributes to managing the technical functionality of the automated library system application (SydneyPlus) and underlying SQL databases
• Performs requirements and business analysis in order to enhance and support specialized custom applications for SLS.
• Identifies, designs, develops and supports additional custom applications

5. Assists in the library’s application and web servers and overall technology environment to ensure efficient operation, ongoing maintenance and future direction

6. Contributes to the planning, development and implementation of the unit’s marketing initiatives and promotional activities

Skills and Behaviors:

  • Thorough knowledge of information management technologies and their applications in a library environment; including expertise with a client/server based automated library system software such as SydneyPlus. In addition, a background and understanding of a corporate library’s key operations and functions (i.e. research, acquisitions, cataloguing, resources management and budgeting) is required.
  • Business analysis and programming expertise, including a solid understanding of usability principles and design tools as they relate to effective interface design of websites, end-user training tools and any other customer interfaces.
  • Thorough knowledge of the logical and physical design of mid-tier relational databases, plus strong expertise with PC systems and applications, web applications and network technologies, including prior hands-on experience with the following: SQL queries and stored procedures; Crystal Reports; Web programming and technologies including asp.net, Advanced DHTML. CSS, Javascript, AJAX., PHP.
  • A real passion for knowledge sharing and highly developed communication and relationship building skills in order to actively express and share ideas as well as elicit information from others in a highly approachable and interactive style
  • Highly self-motivated with a strong aptitude and interest in new technologies and their potential application for improving the operations and furthering the development of library and information management services.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in library and information science plus a degree or diploma in computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience with proven IT skills and knowledge.

Compensation: Salary is based on qualifications and experience.
